Arma 1: The Complete Guide to Downloading and Installing the Realistic War Simulator
The campaign in Armed Assault is narrated by Private First Class William Porter of the United States Army (voiced by Todd Kramer), and takes place on the fictional Atlantic island of Sahrani, an island nation which is divided in two, with the northern being called the Democratic Republic of Sahrani (DRS) and the southern one an oil rich southern monarchy called the Kingdom of South Sahrani. The narrative begins when American forces, after a few months of training the South Sahrani military, begin to depart the island. The northern leader uses this moment of perceived weakness to launch a full-scale invasion of South Sahrani. The player takes on the role of an American soldier in one of the U.S. Army platoons not yet rotated off the island before the conflict began. The few U.S. Army platoons remaining on the island aid the Royal Army Corps of Sahrani (RACS), the South Sahrani military, in fending off the more powerful northern neighbor's offensive, being spearheaded by the North Sahrani military, with the Sahrani Liberation Army (SLA) at the forefront. The campaign follows a linear storyline. However, each level in the campaign has options for the player on how to progress through the mission. The player's in-game performance and choices determine how the storyline progresses and ultimately will have a bearing on the war itself. For example, a mission to seize a crucial town can have a substantial effect on the story depending on the player's level of success or failure. Failure to successfully complete an objective does not result in the game ending but will affect the storyline. Hostile squads act independently of the player's actions so that they may be engaging in an activity dictated by the game A.I. that does not necessarily involve the player. This implies that the game has high replay value as no two games will be identical.
Arma 2: Free offers a cut-down version of Bohemia's sim completely for free. It comes complete with full multiplayer and the editor, but has low-quality graphics and lacks both mod support and the campaign missions. It's also compatible with regular Arma II servers, as long as no mods or expansions are used.
The original Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis is being brought under Bohemia's Arma brand, with the name Arma: Cold War Assault. It'll also come complete with the expansion pack Resistance. If you own Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis or the Game of the Year edition, you'll also be able to download Arma: Cold War Assault for free. Bohemia notes that it'll also be released "through various online stores in the near future."
Arma 2 is the second full Arma game, released for Microsoft Windows and released in June 2009 using the Real Virtuality game engine. The mod DayZ was released on this title, which requires the other standalone game title Operation Arrowhead.
In June 2011, Bohemia Interactive re-released Operation Flashpoint as Arma: Cold War Assault, as Codemasters retain the rights to the Operation Flashpoint trademark. Owners of Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis and the Game of the Year Edition may download and install the latest patch for free, and the game is available for purchase via a number of digital distribution channels. This release does not include the Red Hammer expansion, which was developed by Codemasters. The game uses the same engine, Real Virtuality, as the military simulator VBS1.
Arma 2[N 1] is a military simulation video game developed and published by Bohemia Interactive for Microsoft Windows. It is the sequel to Arma: Armed Assault (Arma: Combat Operations in North America), and the predecessor to Arma 3. Arma 2 saw a limited release in May 2009, and a wide release from June 2009 through July 2009. An expansion pack titled Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead was released in 2010. In June 2011, a free version of the game was released, featuring multiplayer and limited single-player modes. It is also considered the official successor of Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (which has since been renamed to Arma: Cold War Assault by Bohemia Interactive).
Arma 2 was announced in 2007. It is named after the Latin word "arma", meaning weapons, soldiers, and war. Due to the fact that the previous game in the series was named Armed Assault, Arma 2 is often referred to as Armed Assault 2, albeit in error. Although Arma 2's title is stylized as ArmA II, it is done as an homage to the previous game in the series, because the game's title is a slight contraction of Armed Assault in the first game in the series.
Arma 2 uses different copy protections depending on publisher as well as a in-house coded copy protection solution against tampering known as DEGRADE. If the software detects that it was pirated, the DEGRADE-system degrades features of the game, rendering it unplayable. The version downloadable from Steam is not limited by number of installs, but other download services may utilize some limits. As of version 1.05 the publishers copy protection have been removed from Arma 2 although DEGRADE is still included.
In June 2011 Bohemia Interactive released a free-to-play version of Arma 2, featuring full multiplayer compatibility with the retail version of Arma 2. However, the single-player campaign was omitted and players are not able to use high-resolution textures. In 2012, Steam removed ARMA 2: Free from its database. The service eventually was discontinued on 8 April 2014.
The vehicles, weapons, characters and similar items are usually released under APL. Terrains, terrain objects, playable content and voiceovers are usually released under APL-SA, as it's in Bohemia Interactive's interest to keep further modifications of this data free to adapt. DML-SA covers further modifications of DAYZ Mod for Arma 2, TOPL-SA covers further modification of the Take On Helicopters data for the Take On Helicopters game. This is only general information; to check which license applies to particular Bohemia Interactive data, check the content of the package and the license and readme file attached.

Star Command is one of my most-anticipated games for Android. Or at least it was, two years ago when it was scheduled to be released, and then again when it was released for iOS five months ago. An unreasonably long development cycle and some dodgy developer antics have made waiting for this game an exercise in frustration, and it's impossible to give it a full review without at least some bitterness hanging on in the back of my mind.
